Etta James RIP, Dead at 73

James is best known for her 1961 hit “At Last,” along with “Wallflower (Dance with Me, Henry),” jazz standards, “Stormy Weather” and “Sunday Kind of Love” as well as Willie Dixon’s “I Just Want to Make Love to You,” popularized by fellow Chess artist Muddy Waters. In ’68, she had a memorable hit with “I’d Rather Go Blind.”

At a concert Etta unleashed her inner James saying:

"You know, YOUR President, the one with the big ears-he ain't MY President-had that woman singing for him at his Inauguration. She's going to get her a** whooped."

"How dare Beyonce sing MY song that I been singing forever. Now I'm going to sing it for y'all."

-Etta James ((born Jamesetta Hawkins; January 25, 1938 -- January 20, 2012) is an American blues, soul, R&B, rock & roll, gospel and jazz singer and songwriter. James is the winner of four Grammys and seventeen Blues Music Awards. She was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993, the Blues Hall of Fame in 2001, and the Grammy Hall of Fame in both 1999 and 2008. In the 1950s and 1960s, she had her biggest success as a blues and R&B singer. She is best known for performing "At Last", which has been featured in movies, television shows, commercials, and web-streaming services. James has a contralto vocal range.
